چکیده
We present a multiwavelength study of the field containing the unidentified X-ray source AX J1639.0−4642, discovered with the ASCA observatory and recently detected with the IBIS telescope, onboard the INTEGRAL satellite. The huge hydrogen column density towards the source, the hard spectral index in the 0.7–10 keV band and its flux variability suggest that the source is a High Mass X-ray Binary (HMXB) enshrouded by dust. Our search reveals the presence of a non-thermal radio counterpart within the X-ray error box. We have also identified a possible NIR counterpart, compatible with a young OB star, provided the absorption takes place close enough to the compact object. After a careful study of the broadband emission from X-rays to the radio domain, we propose that AX J1639.0−4642 is a dust-enshrouded Microquasar (MQ) candidate. In addition, the X-ray source is well within the 95% location contour of the unidentified γ-ray source 3EG J1639−4702. The main properties of AX J1639.0−4642/3EG J1639−4702 are consistent with those of other two MQs previously proposed to display high-energy γ-ray emission.

متن کاملTowards a population of HMXB/NS microquasars as counterparts of low-latitude unidentified EGRET sources
The discovery of the microquasar LS 5039 well within the 95% conficence contour of the Unidentified EGRET Source (UES) 3EG J1824−1514 was a major step towards the possible association between microquasars (MQs) and UESs. The recent discovery of precessing relativistic radio jets in LS I +61 303, a source associated for long time with 2CG 135+01 and with the UES 3EG J0241+6103, has given further...
متن کاملRadio and Infrared Properties of Dust - Enshrouded Wolf - Rayet Stars
This paper discusses our ongoing efforts to characterize dust-enshrouded Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars in the radio and infrared. We have used the Very Large Array to measure the broadband radio spectrum of WR stars in suspected binary systems and discovered non-thermal emission, which is usually attributed to colliding winds. In addition, infrared imaging using aperture masking interferometry on the K...
متن کاملMass-loss rates and luminosity functions of dust-enshrouded AGB stars and red supergiants in the LMC
A radiative transfer code is used to model the spectral energy distributions of 57 mass-losing Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars and red supergiants (RSGs) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) for which ISO spectroscopic and photometric data are available. As a result we derive mass-loss rates and bolometric luminosities. A gap in the luminosity distribution around Mbol = −7.5 mag separates AG...
متن کاملThe temperatures of dust-enshrouded active galactic nuclei
A high density of massive dark objects (MDOs), probably supermassive black holes, in the centres of nearby galaxies has been inferred from recent observations. There are various indications that much of the accretion responsible for producing these objects took place in dust-enshrouded active galactic nuclei (AGNs). If so, then measurements of the intensity of background radiation and the sourc...
